Membership Information - An invitation to join!

You are invited to join the New York State Society of Municipal Finance Officers. The organization is comprised of more than 350 municipal officials throughout New York State working in municipal finance.

Organization

The New York State Society of Municipal Finance Officers was founded in 1956 and is a non-profit, non-partisan, non-sectarian, self-governing and member supported organization. More than 300 Village and City Finance Officials are members.

Objectives

  1. Cultivate, promote and disseminate knowledge and information which will improve municipal , financial, and accounting procedures in the State of New York.
  2. Develop closer relationships and understanding among its own members; and between its own members and others interested in public finance.
  3. Exchange ideas, information and facts concerning matters and problems of common interest.
  4. Provide assistance, advise and direct members to specific areas of counseling.
  5. Sponsor legislation of benefit to members and to the general public.

Fees

Member $35.00

Associate Member $30.00

Fees shall be payable on or before October 1 for the fiscal year October 1 to September 30.

Qualifications for Membership:

Member: Any City or Village in the State of New York may become a member, provided its authorized representative shall be any appointed or elected public official who is actively engaged in the administration or formulation of laws or ordinances relating to accounting, budgeting or fiscal polices of such municipality.

Associate Member: Any person not eligible to be the representative of a Member, but who is interested in the principals and practice of government finance and who subscribes to the purposes of this Society, shall be eligible to become an Associate Member.

Programs and activities:

Co-sponsor: Annual Fall Training School for City and Village Officials each year.

Sponsor: Seminars around the State.

Awards: Scholarship(s) to member(s) enrolled or anticipate enrollment in a course of study directed to public administration/finance. There is a lifetime limit of $1,500 to be awarded to any one person.

Promote: Legislation to assist municipalities
